The 2010 All Corvette Show – Sat. August 14th
Saturday, August 7th, 2010Corvette Grand Sport Gets 26MPG & 0 to 60 in 4 seconds
Wednesday, April 28th, 2010Imagine yourself behind the wheel of a 2010 Corvette Grand Sport doing 0 to 60 in 4 seconds. There is a bit of impulse every moment your foot touches the pedal. For the most part you’ll probably practice restraint but there will be times when it’s opportunistic to open it up for the 4 seconds.
Auto aficionados note the evolution of cars like the Chevy Corvette and with good reason. There are a select few vehicles that the very ownership elevates the owner and the dream of owning that vehicle never goes away. It is the young and young at heart that crave the Chevy Corvette. Stats indicate it may be more the young at heart but that could change in the BLINK of an eye as launch control is initiated and the feel of 0 to 60 is ingrained on the human hard drive.
The 2010 Grand Sport (replacing the Z51) offers a powerplant that quite frankly has no reason to boast. The 3,311 pound Grand Sport features some signature Z06 parts: Wider front and rear fenders, front splitter and taller rear spoiler, brakes with six piston calipers on front and four piston calipers in the rear which grants high performance sports cars braking that is equally at home on the track or on the commute. Also borrowed from the Z06 are rear fender flares that accentuate sick sized rubber: 275/35R18s front and 325/30R19s on the rear. Trim levels offered are: 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, and 4LT, with the base GS coupe having an option-less suggested MSRP of $55,720.
All trim levels carry a 6.2-L V-8 delivering 436 horses. Enough said except that a Dry- sump version is available on the six-speed manual and Chevy gives highway mpg for the 2010 Grand Sport at a 26 mpg. This concludes yours fantasy but a literal test drive is only a Chevy dealership away.
Corvette Grand Sport – Comparing The Corvette Models
Sunday, April 4th, 2010
Chevrolet’s proud tradition includes the incomparable iconic Corvette. Today the car is even more of a powerhouse with an exhaust sound that moves the auto enthusiast to another level of excitement. The only two areas that keep the Corvette from being the must have affordable sports car are the interior and image. Both areas can with a new design and a great marketing campaign be rectified. One bold ad for the 2008 Cadillac CTS took the model from a retirement car to an exciting drive that spoke vicariously to women and the actress’s charismatic charm to both genders with little regard to age.
In the meantime while waiting on GM to refresh Corvette’s image, customers that don’t buy into the Corvette as the aging boomer’s mid-life-crisis-mobile are happy to have the Grand Sport option to observe, drive, and maybe even own. Here are some facts about the flirty sibling of the Z06.
Chevrolet’s GS can be purchased as a coupe or convertible. Customers can choose among several equipment packages (4) and a sport-tuned suspension in lieu of the Z51 suspension. Taking a look at the exterior shows front fender stripes and vents, wider front and rear fenders, five spoke wheel design, borrowed Z06-size brakes and tires along with Z06-type front splitter and tall rear spoiler, and manual transmission gear ratios. A rear axle ratio is available on automatic models.
The GS is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 slapping the wind with 430 hp and 424 pound-feet of torque. When testing the GS shift it yourself manuals, 0 to 60 is achieved in 3.95 seconds. Trim levels offered for the GS are 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, and 4LT with fuel economy on all levels at 26 highway and 16 city.
The Chevrolet Corvette, a car that has been around, is scrutinized by auto experts in magazines, on blogs, and in the racing world. What is known throughout the industry is the Corvette is still a beast of an exciting machine.
