2010equinox

Cars.com has just announced the Best New SUV of 2010 is the Chevy Equinox. This newly redesigned crossover has the fuel efficiency of a smaller vehicle with one of the largest, most comfortable backseats in it’s class.

The Equinox leads it’s class in mileage with estimates of 22/32 mpg city/highway when it equipped with the base model’s four cylinder engine but can be upgraded to a V-6 for more powerful use.

Be sure to stop by Marc Heitz Chevrolet in Norman to check out our large selection of new 2010 Equinox and see why Cars.com has named it the Best New SUV of 2010.

Jay Leno’s 2010 Twin-Turbo Camaro

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

The resurrected Chevrolet Camaro has come back strong since GM decided to end the program in 2002. Celebrities are coming out of the woodwork, Brad Pitt even owns one. At SEMA this year, GM showed up with Jay Leno’s custom Camaro build, a stealth twin-turbo V6 that equaled the output of it’s sibling the SS running a V8. Some say this V6 was done to intentionally irk the Ford fan boys and their EcoBoost Mustang.

Jay’s Camaro had more that a pair of twins under the hood to show off, the Leno Camaro also got hooked up with Brembo brakes, new coilover suspension and a body kit that makes the front fascia much improved over the stock look. The hood added some venting for cold air to feed the pair of T3 turbos.

GM may be willing to do a custom one-off build for Jay Leno but a turbocharged V6 package would be a tremendous upgrade option regardless if some say there’s no replacement for displacement. Turbocharging an engine is all about efficiency, as turbos must operate within “efficiency islands” of their compressor map to perform at the power level they were designed for.

There is nothing like driving a vehicle and suddenly as the turbos reach the desired boost level you are experiencing the torque or force that pushes one back into the seat. Having a turbo is almost like having the ability to turn on the power when you need it, everyday driving of a V6 and potential of V8 on demand. The smaller V6 is clearly more fuel efficient, but the overall costs will make it unlikely to ever offer such a package.

Oklahoma’s Chevy Suburban Dealer

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

The latest high-capacity Chevrolet SUV displays refinement, high quality and amazing carrying ability.

Show up at a dinner party in Texas in anything smaller than a 2010 Chevrolet Suburban and eyebrows will rise. At one time, this outsized, truck-based wagon sold better than most sedans in the Lone Star state, and for good reasons: The Suburban is the most spacious wagon around, save an airport van.

Its popularity increased as the full-size pickups upon which it is based have continuously improved their driving behavior, interior and exterior styling and their fuel appetites. Today’s multi-functional Avalanche pickup owes its underpinnings to the Suburban. Countless governments, as well as official and unofficial agencies of protection, use the Suburban as the starting point for creating armored staff cars. Suburban has a reliable, overbuilt frame underneath, and smooth-running, efficient drivelines, all matched to its incredible people hauling and towing capacity.

The optional 366-hp 6.0-liter engine is now available as a FlexFuel E85 ethanol-capable engine as is the standard 310-hp 5.3-liter V8, which is a new offering on four-wheel drive models for 2010. Actually, two 5.3-liter V8 engines are available, identical except that one uses an iron block, and one uses an aluminum block, which comes standard on all four-wheel drive versions. All engines power an efficient six-speed automatic transmission, which is state-of-the-art in its size and capacity and smooth shift quality, as well as its ability to transfer torque with low friction and high efficiency. The 1500 is a comfortable passenger wagon, and the heavy-duty 2500 will carry a larger load of people and cargo all day with comfort.
