AFTER ONE YEAR, NEW MARC HEITZ CHEVROLET MORE “GREEN” THEN ANTICIPATED.
Marc Heitz Chevrolet is passing the one-year mark at the new location off I-35 and Exit 108 in Norman. And what an exciting year it’s been!
“There’s always a lot going on,” one employee was heard to say.
With the Corvette Show last month that attracted over 200 Corvette owners from 5 different states, concerts in the on-site amphitheatre, dog costume parties and the like, there is indeed a lot going on. Marc Heitz has been getting a lot of attention directed at the unique store with the rustic lodge look, which includes an 32 foot indoor waterfall with a 4,500 gallon aquarium of assorted local fish, two dog parks, two outdoor playgrounds and one indoor with video games, and the aforementioned amphitheatre. But the most unique features are the ones that may not be as noticeable, unless you understand the significance of the large outdoor wind turbine that peaks over the dealership’s front lot.
Clean energy. Marc Heitz Chevrolet in Norman is Oklahoma’s first “green energy” automotive dealership. In planning for the new store, Marc invested heavily in many green features that are revolutionary in the industry.
The wind generator out front creates energy to light the parking lot, and has been doing so over the past year more efficiently than was originally estimated. The entry signs are LED lights, which is much more efficient than the standard neon light. High-efficiency air conditioners will offer 15% in energy savings every year and the exterior glass is all Solar Ban 60 insulated which has an incredible heat gain rating of .38 compared to the average window rating of .70.
Water usage is also at a minimum thanks to a large water cistern behind the service drive that is used to catch rainwater and condensation for use in watering the 370+ trees on site and the pristine landscaping. Each men’s room is equipped with waterless urinals which are estimated to save over 14,000 gallons a year PER unit!
The lighting system at Marc Heitz Chevrolet is a very intricate computerized light harvesting system that calculates the amount of lighting needed based upon sunrays and adjusts the lighting as needed for optimal cost.
These are just a few of the larger environmentally friendly “green” features on the lot. As the first year of this new one-of-a-kind dealership closes, already Marc and his team are reasearching how to be even more efficient and be on the cutting edge of green energy in Oklahoma.
